Mission Statement : Adopting "SEEPZ Carbon Neutral Vision” as our own new initiative against climate change, a critical issue affecting human beings, we will strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2024 as our top priority management issue.

Only One Earth, Only One SEEPZ Go Sustainable

I. Green Power:

The SEEPZ biogas plant uses the. combined anaerobic and aerobic digester system technology developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). This technology takes 19 days to decompose waste and produce biogas. At its optimum level, the plant has a digester capacity of 3 MT, where about 300 cubic meter of gas is generated per day.

Currently, the gas is used for cooking purposes for Indian Coffee House canteen. However the gas can be used for electricity generation through Biogas turbine which generates 6 Kwh of heat energy and it can be used for an electricity generation of 2.5 Kwh of electricity power.

II. Electric Vehicles:

The SEEPZ SEZ is already using electric scooters for daily monitoring work inside the zone. Further, in support of Clean and Green SEEPZ initiative, the office is on a platform to convert all Internal Combustion and Spark Ignition engines to electrically driven engines for all administrative works.

In support of the above initiative, SEEPZ SEZ hired 2 new electric vehicles on Wet Lease.

III. Air Quality Index:

For a general survey and rating purposes the SEEPZ SEZ Authority may look forward to share the daily Air Quality Index with the help of “Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS)” – I.e. to monitor the air quality of the Zone on a real time basis. Its ratings will be a benchmark of air quality measurement. It will continuously measure air pollutants throughout the year in a continuous manner. The air pollutants will be measured are as follows: SO2, NO, NO2, NH3, CO, O3, CO3, VOC, PM10 and PM2.

SEEPZ shall procure 4 screens with AQI device for 3 Gates and Service Center Building Entry in consultation with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

IV. Trees Health Monitoring Code:

Tree health is assessed with the following three indicators, one each for biotic and abiotic agents and processes and a separate indicator for invasive species: Area and percent of forest significantly affected by biotic processes and agents beyond reference conditions (e.g. insects, fungi, grazing animals)

Over the time SEEPZ SEZ has been continuously putting efforts to enrich its flora and fauna and take pride in quoting that “SEEPZ SEZ is having more than 20 Baobab Trees among which few of them is expected to be more 500 years old” hence this initiative pushing us ahead to launch “Trees Health Monitoring Code Index” which will be an online platform following by a single QR code scan view for each tree-specifically mentioning the following parameters:

  1. Species_ID
  2. Species_Name
  3. Type
  4. Family
  5. Hardwood_Softwood
  6. Genus
  7. Variation_var
  8. Date of last Inspected
  9. Description
  10. Age of Tree/Plant
V. Plastic Replacement:

We may consider suitable incentives for team members who follow these suggestions and who go out of their way to help reduce the plastic waste at the office. Encourage people to take these ideas home with them and to spread the word amongst their family and friends. Remember to recognize and acknowledge individuals’ achievements as well as the team as a whole and be open to implementing new ideas such as using:

  1. Green Pencil
  2. Jute Bags
  3. Decomposable Bags
  4. Decomposable Plates for Canteen use
  5. Usage of Recycle Paper etc.
VI. Water Audit :

SEEPZ SEZ is looking forward for performing water audit inside the zone with the help of CII Triveni Water Institute, New Delhi. Water audit provide greater water efficiency solutions and cost savings for meeting internal policies, complying with legal obligations or demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.

The water audits follow a multi-staged approach in order to provide both short-term and long-term sustainable water management solutions. The Institute’s experienced teams include analytical, design and engineering experts to work through the audit process and examine solutions for better water management.

Water Audit is a systematic process of objectively obtaining a water balance by measuring the flow of water from the site of water withdrawal or treatment through the water distribution system and into areas where it is used and finally discharged. The various steps followed during the course of a Detailed Water Audit are as follows:

  1. A Preliminary Water Survey (PWS)/reconnaissance surveys conducted before initiating the Detailed Water Audit (DWA). This helps in identifying specific areas to be included in Scope of Work.
  2. The Institute customizes Detailed Water Audit agreement to efficiently meet client needs, schedules, and defined scope.
  3. A last mile discipline approach is followed.
  4. State of the art instruments and portable water quality testing kits are used for measurement and monitoring.
  5. Water Mapping and comprehensive water balances.
  6. Water quality assessments.
  7. Recommendations and identification of strategies.
  8. Training programs organized for sensitizing the plant personnel, operators and employees raising awareness.

The grouping is based on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) criteria of categorization of industrial sectors based on the Pollution Index which is a function of the emissions (air pollutants), effluents (water pollutants), hazardous wastes generated and consumption of resources.

Category I: Chlor Alkali, Fertilizer, Ferrous & Nonferrous (Integrated Plants), Pulp & Paper, Textiles, Petrochemical, Oil Refineries

Category II: Automobile, Power, Cement, Sugar, Paint, Airport, Hotels (Large), Pharmaceutical, Distilleries (Alcoholic beverages), Mines

Category III: Engineering, Cigarette, Buildings, Food and Food Processing, FMCG, Tyre Manufacturing, Potable Alcohol Blending, Non-Alcoholic Beverages (soft drinks)

The Service is available on GeM platform with 19 available agencies with following scope of work predefined:

  • Service provider to carry out assessment of existing water resources and water consumption
  • Identify water losses if any and suggest way to eliminate water losses
  • Identify opportunities to reduce water consumption
  • Service provider to prepare detailed water audit report for the site/organization/place etc.
  • Also, an option to upload the scope of work, for buyers to detail out the scope of work as per their specific requirements in terms of conducting water audit.
VII. Energy Audit:

SEEPZ SEZ with reference to the Indian Energy Conservation Act of 2001 (BEE 2008), has taken initiative for an energy audit which is defined as: “The verification, monitoring and analysis of the use of energy and submission of technical report containing recommendations for improving energy efficiency with cost-benefit analysis and an action plan to reduce energy.”

Following will be the brief deliverables :

  • Pre-audit activity – an activity to be conducted by the service provider at the buyer's plant/industry/ building area to focus on energy inputs, spots of wastage, and available energy conservation opportunities
  • During audit activity - analyze and quantifies the amount of energy consumption in each subsystem of the plant/industry/building/area and compare the same with the target energy consumption
  • Post audit activity – Energy conservation measures – preparing reports to provide solutions for energy efficiency to the buyer
  • Energy Audit report – prepare a final energy audit report for the buyer
  • ⦁ Implementation of projects – implementing measures provided in the audit report

The Service is available on GeM platform with 100 available agencies, hence the same can be executed.

Recommendations :

The proposal is submitted for consideration by SEEPZ SEZ Authority.
