• Originally it was planned and pitched as an electronic export zone, which is why SEEPZ stands for Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone. The gems & jewellery started in 1987-88, with one company setting up a gem and jewellery unit and today we see it becoming a hub for the industry. It was like magic waiting to happen. Since then, it has evolved into the single largest concentration of gems and jewellery units globally, anywhere doing around Rs 26,000 crore worth of export business for gems & jewellery and other merchandise. Overseas, the jewellery manufactured here is well - known as SEEPZ jewellery. SEEPZ has become a brand in itself. At SEEPZ-SEZ, the companies are also breaking technological frontiers by adopting new equipment such as the utilisation of 3D printing to reduce waste from 3% to less than a per cent.

Continually Evolving :

• Separately, as an ideal destination for manufacturing, services sector, and trading, SEEPZ-SEZ is continually evolving to provide a globally competitive edge to its units, to promote exports and confirm its value proposition of being the ‘gateway to global markets and contributing to the Prime Minister’s call to achieve the target of $ 400 billion in exports. Towards achieving the same, a specific export strategy has been operationalized.
